Reading Guide

The reading guide button allows the user to have a reading guide that will appear on the y & x axis. (Think of it like using your finger to guide you eyes over the words you should be reading on a book).

Highlight Reading Guide

The hightlight reading guide button allows the user to have a reading guide that will highlight a strip on the page to view.

Maths

At Coton, we use the White Rose materials to teach maths. The school has previously bought in to the Power Maths resources, which are based upon White Rose anyway. Parent meetings are held by the maths leader, and/or class teachers, each year to talk to parents about the content of the maths curriculum for their child and strategies they can use to help at home.

White Rose is influenced, inspired and informed by the work of leading maths researchers and practitioners across the world. For each year group, the scheme of learning includes an overview of the maths that your child should be learning at any point in the year. You’ll notice that a lot of time is spent on building strong number skills in Key Stage 1, Key Stage 2 and early secondary years. These essential core skills lay a solid foundation for more complicated learning later on.

White Rose have also created some super maths homework booklets for children to complete at the end of a unit. The units vary in length so these may be issued after 2 weeks or after 4weeks, depending on how long the unit of work lasts. Your child will bring home a copy of this booklet, following the completion of a unit. Please look at these together at home.

MULTIPLICATION CHECK
When the children reach Year 4, over and above the usual practice and testing in school, they will undertake a statutory Multiplication Check on their times tables up to 12 x 12.  There will be 25 questions in total, having 6 seconds to answer each question, with 3 seconds between questions.

Below is a link for children to practice their times tables, which mirrors the formal Multiplication Check.  Hopefully this will help prepare the children for when they are tested in the Summer term.
