Guided Reading now takes place daily after lunch. Children will work in groups of 6 on a variety of different reading related tasks. Once the children have read aloud and discussed the text with Mrs Christie they will work independently the following day on a follow-up task. Children will also read aloud individually once a week at school and take home two new books that day.
Phonics and Spelling
Phonics is now taught daily in smaller groups where children revisit tricky words and learn new sounds using a multi-sensory approach (e.g. write in the air, on the ground or use materials such as chalk and water). New spelling lists are introduced on Mondays, we practice words on Wednesday and our tests are now on Friday.
We are learning about finger spaces, capitals, full stops, commas in a list, adjectives and more through Talk for Writing and daily writing practice related to Topic, Science and RE and more.
Topic and Science
This term we are learning all out the history of coal mining in our local area. If you have any artefacts or you know of someone who may wish to come in and share their memories then please get in touch with Mrs Christie. In Science we are learning about the properties of different materials.
