This term, I am going to be listening to children read across the school as part of our drive to get more children reading. I will choose a few special children each week to share their book with me and talk to me about their favourite bits!
Children will be chosen completed at random so that I can get a real sense of how well our school is doing. More importantly, it will be great to spend some quality time with the children.
Reading is such an important skill for the following reasons:
- It’s fun and keeps us entertained
- It’s the ‘gateway’ to our world and useful for finding out information
- It helps us to develop our imagination
- It helps us to widen our vocabulary for when we write or when speaking.
I will be making a note in your child’s Home Learning Log if they have been specially selected to read with me and they may even get some extra Privilege Points!
We hope to see you at our welcome meetings next week, where you will be able to meet the class teacher and find out about the following things:
- The new Home-Learning Log that you children will be bringing home
- X Tables
- What you child is learning this year
- End of year National Expectations for your child’s year group in Reading, Writing and Maths
- Privilege Points
- Plus lots more useful information pertaining to your child’s class
Even if you have met your child’s teacher, it will be a good chance for you to find out what we have in store this year so you are kept informed.
We hope to see you there!
The clubs have been listed on our website for Autumn term 1. Please ensure you complete the form, even if your child has attended the club previously – Clubs start from next week.
The after school clubs page can be found here.
The breakfast club forms for each term this school year have now been uploaded on to the website, click here for a quick link.
It is important to stress that if you do use the breakfast club facility then can you please book in advance in order to ensure that we have the correct level of staffing and provisions in place – we would hate to have to turn anyone away.
The list of diary dates can now be found under the ‘Information’ tab. We will notify you of any changes, if and when they arise.
Please see our Welcome back 2017-18 letter from Mr Smith. Information on diary dates and after school clubs will be published this week – so keep a look out.
What an amazing start to the new school year! All of the children have returned looking super smart and ready for the year ahead.
The changes to our uniform look great and the children are wearing the school badge with pride.
With another busy week ahead of us, we thought we’d recap on what’s happening in school this week:
Wednesday, 12th July 2017, 1.15pm
We have our sports day (which was rescheduled from 29th June), weather permitting. There will be refreshments available for parents to purchase, organised by our FPTA.
Thursday, 13th July 2017
6-7pm Infants disco, school hall
7-8pm Juniors disco, school hall
The year 6 children are very excited as they have been voting for their ‘last dance at Coton’ song.
£2 entry, refreshments are available to purchase during the evening as normal.
Parents should received a letter this week, prior to ‘move-up day’ on Friday 14th July, explaining which class your child(ren) will be in for the next School Year.
Your child’s end of year report will be issued by the end of this week also.
Following our communication last week regards school uniform, we have been made aware that there are a couple of issues with ordering uniform from the websites. Please note that we are in communication with all the suppliers and hope to have all issues resolved by the end of the week.
Thank you for your understanding.
