As part of our World of Work week, we have arranged for a variety of people from different professions to come in and talk with the children and introduce them to their world of work.
The first representative to come in to school was Helen, an ICU (Intensive Care Unit) Nurse. The children were fascinated in all the different equipment. Helen explained all the different equipment they used in the IC Unit from assessing oxygen levels, using a stethoscope, torches to look into eyes, heart monitors, nasal cannulas and much more! Some of them had their pulse rate and blood pressure taken.
Helen also talked about first aid and demonstrated the recovery position to the children. Then it was their turn to put each other in the recovery position – which was quite comical!
The next activity involved bandages! Helen was really impressed with the children as they bandaged different areas of each others bodies, it also created much hilarity too!
Our ICU nurse was incredibly impressed with the bandages that the children had done – maybe we have some budding nurses or doctors in our midst – watch this space!
