Attendance and Arriving on Time

ATTENDANCE AND ARRIVING ON TIME

At Coton in the Elms Primary, we believe that a child will make better progress in their learning and also in their social and emotional development, if they attend school regularly and arrive each day on time.

We strive to work with you in your child’s best interests, to ensure that you child regularly attends school and enjoys their time here.

We promote regular attendance in the following ways:

  • Present certificates each half term, to those children who have a very good attendance
  • Offer a special treat to those children who have an ‘excellent’ attendance throughout the whole year

How does your child compare?

Attendance during one school year equals this number of days absent which is approximately this many weeks absent which means this number of lessons missed

90% 19 days 4 weeks 100 lessons

80% 38 days 8 weeks 200 lessons

70% 57 days 11.5 weeks 290 lessons

Frequent absence can add up to a considerable amount of lost learning and can seriously disadvantage your child in adult life.

How Good is Your Attendance?

Attendance/Punctuality

GOLD 97%.

Is your attendance above 97%? (Having less than 6 days absence in the year) You are an excellent ‘attender’ you will almost certainly achieve the best grades for your ability and have real opportunity in further education or the world of work.

SILVER 95%

Is your attendance 95% plus? (Having less than two weeks absence in the year) You are likely to achieve your grades that will give you real opportunities to continue your studies or in the world of work.

BRONZE 90%

Is your attendance 90% plus? You will be missing up to 20 days each school year and this will make it difficult for you to achieve your best.

Less than 90%

Is your attendance between 80%-90%? You are missing so much time from school that it will be difficult for you to keep in touch with lessons or work.

RED 80% and below

If your attendance is below 80% you need to take action now! You are missing so much time from school that it will be almost impossible for you to keep in touch with lessons or work.
